Degree requirements
Application without a final master’s degree diploma is feasible, but a certified copy of a recent transcript of records and a formal statement on the expected completion date from the educational institution is required. The master’s degree needs to be completed, incl. defence of the thesis, no later than September 1st, 2025.
If the certificate is in another language than Danish, Swedish, Norwegian or English, an official translation of the master’s certificate into English is needed to apply together with a copy of the original certificate.
To be eligible you must have maximum four years of experience since issuing of the degree at the time of application. Prolonged career breaks are considered upon documentation of parental leave, illness, military- or civil service.
No, candidates already holding a PhD degree are not eligible.
Mobility requirements
You can apply if you live up to the eligibility requirements: Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline — unless as part of a compulsory national service or a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention.

Content of the program and PhD projects
The exact content and focus of each specific position is not defined yet, since this will be developed in collaboration between the selected candidate and the Interdisciplinary Supervising Team (IST). Candidates shortlisted for host interviews will at these interviews have an opportunity to hear more about the specific project opportunities.
Terms of the fellowship
No, there is no specific family allowance for these fellowships. The selected candidates will be paid a regulated salary including pension. Please see the Guide for Applicants for details.
Other questions
There is no biological age limitation for applicants, but candidates must hold a master’s degree in a relevant field, obtained no longer than four years before application deadline.
Depending on the project, you will be employed at either University of Copenhagen or Technical University of Denmark. You can see the employing institution of the open projects here.
No, INTERACT will not cover the costs for VISA applications.
You should specify up to four projects you are interested in in the motivation letter. If shortlisted for host interviews, you will, following the host interviews, be able to change any priorities.
You should upload the following documents together with your application:
- Online application form including personal details
- Motivation letter/cover letter (mandatory template, max 1,5 pages)
- CV (mandatory template, max 4 pages)
- A signed eligibility declaration and consent form (mandatory template)
- List of two referees, whereof one should preferably be the master’s degree supervisor (mandatory template)
- Certified copy of original master diploma and transcripts records in the original language, including an authorized English translation if issued in other language than English
- Documentation of English test
- Documentation of career breaks, if any

If I get offered a fully funded PhD position in the INTERACT programme, can I change the start date?
The start date is 1 September 2025 but are aware that this date will have to be pushed forward if a candidate is prevented from starting on the specified date. This could for example be due to visa applications.
